Just one week before the regular season starts, the Chicago Blackhawks are dealing with several injuries, including one to a goaltender who they shelled out big bucks for over the offseason.

According to team physician Dr. Michael Terry, Blackhawks goaltender Robin Lehner is dealing with a right hip injury, and did not practice with the club Wednesday ahead of their exhibition game against the Washington Capitals.

Lehner suffered the injury on Tuesday and was forced to leave practice. There was no timetable given for his return, but if he’s out for any sustained period of time, then Corey Crawford could very well get the start in Prague when the Blackhawks take on the Flyers in the season opener on Oct. 4.

The Blackhawks also said that forward Zack Smith is dealing with a back issue, but his status for the team’s opener is unknown.

The Blackhawks also made an announcement about first round draft pick Kirby Dach, who has been dealing with a concussion he sustained during a prospect tournament earlier this month. Dach has been skating on his own over the last few days, and while he will travel with the team to Europe, he isn’t expected to play in the season opener against the Flyers.
