Matt Nagy Says Bears Aren't Considering Resting Starters vs. 49ers

The Bears could still clinch the second seed in the NFC with a bit of help

The Chicago Bears have already locked up the NFC North title and a playoff spot, but that doesn’t mean that head coach Matt Nagy is ready to give his players a break before the postseason.

Speaking to media on Wednesday afternoon at Halas Hall, Nagy said that the Bears will not be resting their starters in the Week 16 game against the San Francisco 49ers, and that the team will continue to fight for playoff seeding.

“It’s not even in the world of consideration for us,” he said. “We’re trying to win.”

The Bears currently sit at 10-4 on the season, and are one game behind the Los Angeles Rams for the second seed in the NFC. If they are able to move into a tie with the Rams, they would secure a first round bye in the playoffs by virtue of their Week 14 win over Los Angeles at Soldier Field.

The Bears took things very cautiously with their starters during the preseason, benching players like Mitchell Trubisky for the team’s final two exhibition contests. They will apparently be starting most of their key players when they head to the Bay Area to take on the 49ers on Sunday afternoon, with kick-off scheduled for 3:05 p.m.
