Bilal Nichols #98 of the Chicago Bears rushes against the New England Patriots at Soldier Field on October 21, 2018 in Chicago, Illinois. The Patriots defeated the Bears 38-31.

As the Chicago Bears prepare for their game against the Green Bay Packers on Thursday, several players are dealing with nagging injuries in the closing days before the beginning of the season.

Tight end Trey Burton was a limited participant in Tuesday’s workout at Halas Hall as he continues to deal with a groin injury. The tight end underwent sports hernia surgery during the offseason, but his current injury is not related to that ailment, according to General Manager Ryan Pace.

It is unclear whether Burton will be on the field Thursday, as his status has been listed as day-to-day.

After missing Monday’s practice at Halas Hall, offensive lineman Rashaad Coward was a limited participant as he continues to rehab an elbow injury. The Bears’ offensive line has seen some injury issues during the preseason, with TJ Clemmings heading to season-ending IR, and Coward’s absence could impact the team’s depth if he’s unable to play.

The Bears added a new name to their injury report on Tuesday, as defensive end Bilal Nichols was listed as limited with a knee injury. Nichols, who had a strong season as a pass rusher in 2018, is a key member of the Bears’ front three, and he would be instrumental in keeping Aaron Rodgers in check for the season opener.

As for the Packers, their injury report is staggeringly long. Three players missed Tuesday’s workout, including linebacker Oren Burks, wide receiver Darrius Shepherd, and tight end Jace Sternberger all missed the practice, and cornerbacks Ka’dar Hollman, Kevin King, and Tramon Williams were all limited.

A total of 14 players were full participants in the workout, including tight end Jimmy Graham, starting tackle Bryan Bulaga, defensive tackle Kenny Clark, and running back Aaron Jones.

The teams will issue one more injury report prior to Thursday’s game, and we’ll get a better idea about the game status of those dealing with ailments on both rosters.
