No Snow? Highland Park Makes Its Own

The Chicago area remains free of snow, unusual for this time of year

What's a north suburban town to do when the Chicago area hasn't had any measurable snowfall?

Make their own, of course.

That's exactly what Highland Park did to kick off the downtown holiday "Shhhhhh...opping" event that began Thursday.

The event promises true holiday fare, from live reindeer and carolers to ice sculptures and horse drawn carriages. There was just one problem: no snow

So Highland Park officials decided to create it. The suburb's downtown is now dusted with a manufactured winter wonderland just in time for this weekend's shopping event.
