Keep your umbrella handy this week.

Rain ushers in the start of June with bursts of heavy rain Monday, as well as possible small hail, gusty winds and a chance for isolated thunderstorms.

Scattered showers and storms are possible for about 30 to 40 percent of the Chicago area. The day remains warm and muggy, though, with temperatures topping out in the mid-80s.

Models show showers and isolated storms ending early Monday night ahead of a cool front bringing temps down to the mid-60s.

Tuesday stays warm but less humid with mostly sunny skies and highs reaching the low to mid-80s before turning cooler along the lake by late afternoon.

The next storm threat arrives during the pre-dawn hours of Wednesday to the west of the Fox Valley before heading east over the rest of the Chicago area during the morning rush hour.

Most of the metro area has already been placed under a slight risk for damaging wind and heavy rain as the system moves out of Iowa.

Widespread, heavy rain is expected to continue through Wednesday morning, followed by possible showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening in southern counties and northwest Indiana.

A slow-moving cold front follows with cooler temps holding mainly in the mid to upper 60s.

Models show the rest of the week looking much calmer as more sunshine, low humidity and cooler temps settle in off the lake into the start of the weekend. Temperatures are expected to warm to the mid-70s for Saturday and Sunday.
