Teen Tried to Get Into ‘El' Car Through Roof: Police

Boy charged with misdemeanor count of criminal trespass

A teen who was walking on the Chicago Transit Authority's Green Line tracks Thursday morning was later seen trying to get into a train car through the roof, authorities said.

The 17-year-old teen was charged Friday with a misdemeanor count of criminal trespass to land and released to the custody of a parent, said News Affairs Officer Robert Perez.

Power to the Green Line tracks was turned off in both directions at 8:46 a.m. Thursday at Central Avenue due to an unauthorized person on the tracks, CTA spokeswoman Catherine Hosinksi said. Power was restored three minutes later.

Police were called after witnesses said they saw the teen walking down the tracks.  Once there, police found the teen trying to get into a stopped train through the emergency hatch on the roof.
