Cubs Will Battle Cardinals in Marquee Game Following 2018 All-Star Break: Report

Information on the 2018 Major League Baseball schedule is beginning to leak out, and according to a report, the Chicago Cubs will be participants in a unique game next season.

According to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Cubs will play against the St. Louis Cardinals on the Thursday following the All-Star break next season. That new game will be the only game on the schedule that night, and will be nationally televised as the two long-time rivals square off at Wrigley Field.

The other 28 teams will have to wait until the Friday of All-Star week to resume their schedules, but the Cubs and Cardinals will get the second half of their respective seasons started on July 19.

According to Goold, teams can only be selected once for that Thursday game while the current Collective Bargaining Agreement is in place.

Goold’s report also says that the Cardinals will play a home-and-home series against the Chicago White Sox next season, meaning that the Redbirds will make a two-game trip to Guaranteed Rate Field and the Pale Hose will play a pair of games at Busch Stadium, as the AL Central and NL Central do battle in interleague play next season.

The full MLB schedule will be announced at a later date.
