Kris Bryant to Be Called Up by Cubs: Report

"Today I got to tell my family that my dream is coming true," Bryant posted on his personal Twitter account late Thursday night

The Chicago Cubs have a farm system full of talented prospects, but none are more hotly anticipated than Kris Bryant, and according to reports, he will be joining the team this weekend.

Citing a source familiar with the situation, Comcast SportsNet Chicago reported Thursday the Cubs will be bringing Bryant up to the major league roster on Friday. With injuries to several players, including Mike Olt and Tommy La Stella, the Cubs were in desperate need of infield help, and Bryant fits that bill.

"Today I got to tell my family that my dream is coming true," Bryant posted on his personal Twitter account late Thursday night. "Can’t really put into words what that feels like. So excited for this journey!"

Taken with the second overall pick in the 2013, Bryant had an incredible spring training for the Cubs, slugging eight home runs in Cactus League play and adding fuel to the fire over the debate as to when Bryant should be called up.

The Cubs ended up making a business decision with Bryant, leaving him in the minors long enough that he wouldn't be able to accrue a full year of service time this season.

That delay will be enough to ensure that Bryant won't be able to hit free agency until after the 2021 season, thus giving the Cubs a full extra year of contractual control over the star prospect.
