Video: Theo Epstein Brushes Back Clark the Cubs With Inside Pitch

Epstein was throwing out the first pitch before Thursday's South Bend Cubs opener

Clark the Cub has been the subject of internet mockery and is adored by young fans of the Chicago Cubs, but there is one person that cannot be considered a friend of his: Cubs President of Baseball Operations Theo Epstein.

Epstein, who took over the position in 2011, was on hand for the home opener of the South Bend Cubs on Thursday night. The team also welcomed Clark to the ballpark for their first home opener as a Class-A affiliate of the Cubs, and Epstein was invited to throw out the first pitch before the game got underway.

Let's just say that he had nefarious intentions as he toed the slab at the ballpark:

The story takes an even weirder turn, because Epstein confessed in a postgame interview with Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports that he deliberately threw at the Cubs' mascot.

"I tried to brush him back -- at least move his feet with a two-seamer in off the plate," he said. "Which I did. I can't believe he got out of the way. He moves quickly without pants on."

There's no word yet on whether or not Clark will get a chance for revenge on Epstein, but one thing is for sure: front office executives take the game of baseball just as seriously as the guys that are on the field every day.
