Trump's 2nd Month Brings Health Care, Tax Overhaul: Analysis

As President Donald Trump begins his second month in office, his team is trying to move past the crush of controversies that overtook his first month and make progress on health care and tax overhauls long sought by Republicans. Both issues thrust Trump, a real estate executive who has never held elected office, into the unfamiliar world of legislating. The president has thus far relied exclusively on executive powers to muscle through policy priorities and has offered few details about what he'll require in any final legislative packages, like how the proposals should be paid for. The White House also sent conflicting signals about whether the president will send Congress his own legislative blueprints or let lawmakers drive the process.

Dangerous Pollutant Detected on Chicago’s Southeast Side

Removing a toxic air pollutant has unearthed a new health danger on Chicago’s Southeast Side. Federal and city officials discovered high levels of a type of heavy metal, known as manganese, while investigating piles of black dust known as petcoke. Officials say it was detected a few years ago and that the substance has since been removed. The Chicago Tribune reports officials believe S.H.Bell, a company along the Calumet River, is behind the manganese, but the company has denied that. Manganese can cause permanent damage to the nervous system and is linked to learning disabilities, memory loss, and anxiety.

Hillary Clinton Calls Out Trump for Silence on JCC Threats

Hillary Clinton called a series of threats and attacks against Jews and Jewish groups "so troubling" in a tweet Monday that urged President Donald Trump to speak out against them. Trump hasn't commented directly on a series of bomb threats to Jewish community centers around the country, despite being asked about it directly at a recent press conference. The latest wave of threats came Monday, with 10 locations targeted. Also Monday, dozens of headstones were toppled at a Jewish cemetery near St. Louis. "JCC threats, cemetery desecration & online attacks are so troubling & they need to be stopped. Everyone must speak out, starting w/ @POTUS," Clinton tweeted.
