One person was noticeably absent from Tuesday's Cook County Board meeting.

President Todd Stroger was a no-show for the first meeting of the board since he lost the Democratic primary election to Alderman Toni Preckwinkle.

Much speculation swirled around how the lame-duck president would behave after placing fourth in the primary behind Preckwinkle, Terry O'Brien and Dorothy Brown. Few predicted absenteeism.

Since taking over the job his father once held, he's been ridiculed and razzed for incompetence. He's made outlandish statements and destroyed relationships. And he's suffered significant political opposition over his penny-on-the-dollar sales tax increase.

Preckwinkle's victory showed a decisive referendum on the younger Stroger. They wanted him and his controversial sales tax gone.

In his concession speech, Stroger vowed to help her learn the county ropes, but apparently not today.
