A Will County judge says he's battled a nearly life-long addiction to porn but said his viewing of the material never affected his job or any of his rulings.
Judge Joseph Polito spoke Thursday before the Illinois Courts Commission in an effort to keep his job.
Earlier this year, information surfaced that someone using Polito's computer login information had frequently viewed porn, sometimes in his court chambers.
Polito was reassigned from divorce court shortly after the Chicago Sun-Times' initial report, and the first investigation by the Illinois Judicial Inquiry Board was launched.
"This is a shameful and humbling experience," Polito told the commissioners, according to a follow-up Sun-Times report. "I acknowledge I did not uphold the high standards of conduct my position required."
The courts commission, which will issue a written ruling at a later date, could discipline him with anything from a reprimand to termination.
