Chicago Police Warn of Terrifying Wicker Park Break-Ins, Attempted Assaults

In two of the three incidents, women awoke to a half-naked man in their bedroom

Chicago Police have issued a warning about two separate incidents in which a woman was woken up by a half-naked man in her bedroom, as well as an additional home invasion in the city's Wicker Park neighborhood.

All three incidents occurred on Friday, August 26, according to a release from the Chicago Police Department.

In the first incident, a woman was asleep in her home in the 1400 block of North Greenview Ave at 12:45 a.m. when she woke up to an unknown man standing at the foot of her bed with his pants down, police said. She pleaded with the man not to hurt her when he then stole several items and fled. Police believe he may have used the window to enter and exit the home.

That night, at 10:45 p.m., police said the victims were in their home in the 1200 block of North Wood when they hear noises coming from the rear bedroom. One of the victims went to investigate the noise and discovered that the bedroom door was locked. The victim then forced their way into the bedroom and saw that the suspect had escaped through the window.

Around 11:10 p.m., a woman was asleep in her home in the 1800 block of West Evergreen Ave when she was woken up by a man, naked from the waist down, on top of her and covering her mouth with his hand. While pleading for help, she was able to break free and the offender then fled from the bedroom window.

No one is in custody, and the suspect from both the Greenview and Evergreen incidents was described as a black man, thought to be in his 20s, according to police.

Anyone with information on these incidents is asked to call Area North Detectives at (312) 744-8261.
