A northwest suburban man has been charged with fatally shooting his wife Sunday afternoon as she held their baby in their home near Arlington Heights.

Jose Arturo Salgado-Roque, 42, was charged with one count of first-degree murder, according to the Cook County sheriff’s office.

Salgado-Roque shot his wife, 38-year-old Divina Salgado, as she walked into their home carrying their one-year-old child in the 0-100 block of 3rd Avenue in unincorporated Arlington Heights about 1:45 p.m. Sunday, according to the sheriff’s office.

Salgado was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:06 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office, which spelled her name as Divine.

An autopsy found she died of a gunshot wound to the head, and her death was ruled a homicide.

The one-year-old and two other children were placed in the custody of the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.

Salgado-Roque was located and taken into custody, according to the sheriff’s office. He is scheduled to appear in bond court Tuesday in Rolling Meadows.
