Northwestern Alerts Campus of Sexual Assault

Northwestern University officials late Monday issued a security alert following a reported sexual assault on campus.

The alleged attack happened between 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in the student's residence hall room, the alert said.

"The student previously had communications with the offender and then met him at a CTA el station in Evanston. They went to her residence hall room where the assault occurred. No weapon was displayed in the incident," officials said in the statement.

The attacker is not believed to be a Northwestern University student, and a detailed description of him was not released.

The university website contains a list of resources for students who have been victimized.
