Prosecutors Want to Revoke Bond for Former Teacher Charged in Sex Assault

Former Gavin Elementary District 37 teacher Michael Vucic is accused of sexually assaulting two students

Lake County prosecutors want a former Gavin Elementary District 37 teacher accused of sexually assaulting two students held without bond.

Michael R. Vucic is charged with predatory criminal sexual assault and criminal sexual assault while employed at a public school in Ingleside, outside Chicago. He is being held in lieu of $10 million bond in Lake County Jail after extradition from Bosnia-Herzegovina, where he was arrested in September.

State's attorney spokeswoman Cynthia Vargas told the Daily Herald in Arlington Heights that prosecutors on Thursday will ask Judge Daniel Shanes to hold Vucic without bail.

Vargas said prosecutors fear if the 41-year-old Vucic should post bail, he would try to leave the country, like he did in August after an arrest warrant was issued for him.

Police said the female victim, who was under the age of 13, told her grandparents that Vucic had inappropriate sexual contact with her multiple times in 2012.

It wasn't immediately known if Vucic had legal representation.
