Cubs Beat Indians, Stay Alive in World Series

The World Series is heading back to Cleveland as the Chicago Cubs stayed alive with a victory over the Indians in Game 5 on Sunday night.

Kris Bryant hit a home run, and Addison Russell and David Ross each registered RBI in the victory.

Both pitchers were flawless in the first inning as they racked up five consecutive strikeouts. Jon Lester struck out the side in the top of the frame, and then Trevor Bauer struck out Dexter Fowler and Kris Bryant en route to a perfect inning.

The second inning got off to a fun start for the Cubs as David Ross and Anthony Rizzo combined to make a circus catch, but things quickly went south for the team. Jose Ramirez unloaded on a pitch and drove a home run into the left field stands, putting the Indians ahead 1-0.

The game remained a one-run contest until the bottom of the fourth inning, and Bryant did some great work in tying things up. The third baseman cracked a home run just over the left field wall, knotting things up at 1-1.

Rizzo followed up with another long drive, this one bouncing off the vines on the outfield wall for a double. Rizzo would later score on an infield single by Addison Russell that put the Cubs ahead 2-1.

After Jason Heyward struck out and Javier Baez hit a single to load the bases, David Ross made an impact in his last home game at Wrigley Field as he pounded a sacrifice fly to left field to score Rizzo and make it a 3-1 game.

The Indians scratched out a run in the sixth inning thanks to Rajai Davis. The speedster got a single and then stole second base, and he ended up scoring on a Francisco Lindor single to center field to bring Cleveland back to within a 3-2 margin.

Surprisingly, Joe Maddon pulled Jon Lester going into the seventh inning, but the Cubs' bullpen made the decision work. With runners on first and second with two outs, Aroldis Chapman induced a weak groundout by Roberto Perez to end the inning and keep the Cubs in front.

The Cubs had a scoring chance of their own in the bottom of the frame, but they too failed to get the run across. With Cody Allen on the hill, Ben Zobrist popped out to shortstop to strand two runners on base.

Chapman ended up working the final two innings of the game, and he did remarkable work as he allowed just one base hit and struck out four batters to get the save and keep the Cubs alive in the series.

The Cubs and Indians will now head to Cleveland for Game 6, which will take place on Tuesday night and feature a pitching matchup between Jake Arrieta and Josh Tomlin.
