Suit Filed in Lakeview Porch Collapse

Several people injured when porch fell two stories Sunday

A woman injured in an early Sunday porch collapse in the Lakeview neighborhood filed a lawsuit Monday against the owner of the building, claiming the porch violated city building code.

Alana Herber claims she was injured Sunday when a second-floor porch collapsed off a building in the 3700 block of North Ashland Avenue, according to a suit filed in Cook County Circuit Court.

Herber claims the second floor tenant invited her and others to a party and she was standing on the wooden deck when it detached from the building after the ledger board separated from the structure.  An estimated eight people were on the porch when it collapsed.

The suit claims the ledger board side of the 12-foot high deck collapsed to the first floor with Herber and others.

Eleven people were injured in a separate porch collapse on Saturday in Tinley Park.
