Several businesses on Chicago's near north side were evacuated Monday afternoon following a gas leak.

A break in a two-inch gas main was reported about 3:20 p.m. at 900 W. Weed St., fire department spokesman Larry Langford said.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the break was not immediately known, but a few businesses were evacuated as a precaution, he said.

Crews from Peoples Gas were on the scene as of 4 p.m.
