Officer Accused of Snapchat Snafu Amid Federal Investigation: Report

An Indiana police officer purportedly sent Snapchat videos of himself talking about the execution of federal search warrants and showed evidence reportedly seized in the raids.

The videos shows the East Chicago police officer, lists of seized items, evidence and a home, the Times of Northwest Indiana reports.

The federal government does not usually release photos of evidence seized in raids.

Officials had previously confirmed to the newspaper that several federal search warrants had in fact been recently executed in East Chicago.

East Chicago City Attorney Carla Morgan told the Times on Wednesday the department became aware of the videos, "almost immediately after they were posted." She said action has been taken against the officer, but did not release details because of the ongoing federal investigation.

U.S. Attorney David Capp told the paper Thursday he has been working with East Chicago Police Chief Frank Smith, who is handling the matter within department policy.
