1 Dead, at Least 7 Others Wounded in Sunday Shootings

One person is dead and at least seven others have been wounded in shootings across the city of Chicago on Sunday.

Just after 3 a.m. Sunday morning, a 24-year-old man was driving a vehicle in the 500 block of Lower Wacker Drive when a dark colored SUV drove up and a person inside opened fire, striking the victim in the chest.

The victim was taken to Northwestern Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The gunman’s vehicle fled the scene westbound on Lower Wacker Drive, and no one is in custody, according to police.

Another shooting took place in the 4400 block of West Armitage at approximately 5:55 p.m., when a 31-year-old man was shot while walking in an alley, according to police.

The man was shot twice in the abdomen, and was taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital in critical condition. The man was unable to provide a description of his attacker, or observe any other information before he was shot, and Area North detectives are investigating.

On Sunday evening, a 16-year-old boy was shot multiple times in the 3600 block of West Chicago, according to police. The boy was taken to Mount Sinai, where he is listed in critical condition, and no suspects are in custody. 

Here are the rest of Sunday’s shootings:

  • In the 7500 block of South Champlain, a 30-year-old man was shot in the right leg, according to police. The man was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition, but declined to provide any other information to police.
  • At approximately 4:44 a.m. in the 5300 block of South Princeton, a 28-year-old man was driving a car when a person in another vehicle fired shots, striking him in the hand. He brought himself to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition.
  • A 35-year-old man was shot while he was taking out the garbage at his residence in the 5500 block of South Shields at approximately 10 a.m., according to police. The man said a person in a vehicle began firing shots at him, striking him in the right buttock. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in stable condition.
  • Two men entered a 36-year-old’s residence in the 13300 block of South Michigan Avenue just after 3 p.m. and fired shots at him, striking him in the right arm. The man was taken to MetroSouth Hospital in stable condition, according to police.
  • Just before 9 p.m., a 21-year-old man was standing on a sidewalk in the 4000 block of West Armitage when a person in a light colored vehicle opened fire, striking him in the knee. He was taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital in stable condition, according to police.
