An 18-year-old man died Friday after being shot in the chest in Chicago's South Deering neighborhood, authorities said.

Shots rang out at about 3:40 near East 99th Street and South Yates Avenue, said police News Affairs Officer Michael Sullivan. That intersection is near Banner Academy South High School.

Terrance Wright, 18, of the 5000 block of South Carpenter Street, was shot and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 4:31 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

An autopsy for Wright is scheduled for Saturday.

Area South detectives are investigating.
