Rescuers Descend Into Arlington Heights Sewer After Report of 3 Kids Trapped

Authorities responded Friday afternoon to an Arlington Heights backyard manhole after a call of three juveniles being stuck in a sewer.

A homeowner saw the three kids exiting a sewer and were later picked up by police uninjured, according to the Arlington Heights Fire Department. The three children were released to their parents, officials said.

Responders were at the scene at about 2:45 p.m. in the 2700 block of Dryden. Multiple firefighters could be seen in the backyard of what appeared to be a suburban home donning rappelling gear, helmets and carrying flashlights.

About an hour after two of the responders crawled into what looked like a sewer, they emerged but had no objects or other people with them.

At one point, a firefighter looked up at Sky 5 and smiled at the camera.
