Woman Charged With DUI After Striking ISP Trooper on I-294

The trooper was taken to an area hospital where he was listed in critical condition with non-life threatening injuries

A woman has been charged with DUI after she allegedly struck and critically wounded an Illinois State Police trooper while he was conducting a traffic stop on the Tri-State Tollway near west suburban Berkeley Saturday.

Leslie Thurow, 55, of Mount Prospect, was charged with aggravated leaving the scene of a police-involved crash, aggravated DUI and aggravated DUI involving a personal injury, police said.

The incident happened just before 3 p.m. on northbound I-294 near St. Charles Road. A 28-year-old trooper was conducting a traffic stop when he was struck by a Honda, according to Illinois State Police spokesperson Monique Bond.

The driver of the Honda attempted to flee the scene but crashed into a silver Acura, causing the Acura to roll over, authorities said.

The trooper was taken to an area hospital where he was listed in critical condition with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Seven people in the Acura, all family members from Naperville, were also taken to area hospitals following the crash.

Police said the injured include a 37-year-old woman, a 43-year-old man, a 3-year-old boy, a 63-year-old woman, a 73-year-old man, an 11-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy. Their conditions were not immediately known.
