Wisconsin Boy Accused of Fatally Shooting Mother of Girl He Was Dating

Authorities have said the suspect fatally shot 47-year-old Theresa Coates at her home in Saratoga on Aug. 17, and shot himself in the head

A 17-year-old boy accused of fatally shooting the mother of a girl he had been dating has been released from a central Wisconsin hospital.

Wood County Sheriff's Capt. Shawn Becker says the boy was released from the hospital Sept. 16. Becker says the suspect was booked into the Wood County Jail in Wisconsin Rapids.

Daily Tribune Media reports the boy was being treated for a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Authorities have said the suspect fatally shot 47-year-old Theresa Coates at her home in Saratoga on Aug. 17, and shot himself in the head.

Search warrants said her 17-year-old daughter told police that she ended her relationship with him on the day of the shooting.

Becker says the sheriff's office has referred a first-degree reckless homicide charge to prosecutors.
