Will County Uses Drug-Arrest Money for Channahon Police Dog

Money seized by police in illicit drug arrests has financed the purchase of a drug-sniffing dog for the Channahon Police Department.

Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow says $15,000 in drug-forfeiture funds his office controls was used to purchase and train the German Shepherd and Belgian Malinois mix named Hutch.

Channahon Police Officer Dustin Carlson is Hutch's handler. The dog was introduced recently at a Channahon Village Board meeting.

The dog will also be a liaison between police and Channahon citizens at community events. Officials say Hutch is socialized and enjoys attention from children.

Glasgow heard of Channahon's need from Will County Board members. He's also working with Wilmington officials to procure a K9 unit for that department.
