If the Chicago White Sox were going to get to David Price on Saturday, they knew they would likely have to strike early.

Price made sure that didn't happen.

He struck out 11 in a five-hitter, Miguel Cabrera homered and the Detroit Tigers ended an eight-game losing streak, beating the White Sox 7-1.

The four-time AL Central champion Tigers stopped their worst skid since 2005 and avoided falling below .500 for the first time this year.

Price (5-2) struck out seven straight batters in the middle innings. He walked two in his 13th career complete game.

"We hit well, but they were in a position to catch the ball," White Sox shortstop Alexei Ramirez said. "We did what we could against him and those kind of things happen."

John Danks (3-5) gave up five runs and 11 hits in 4 2-3 innings. The Tigers scored five times on seven hits in the fifth. Cabrera's homer ended a string of 13 consecutive scoreless innings for Danks.

James McCann followed with an RBI double, and Josh Wilson and Jose Iglesias added RBI singles.

Danks' trouble, however, started with Cabrera.

"I made a bad pitch to Miggy - he's the best hitter in the game," he said. "And the ball just got up."

Iglesias and J.D. Martinez added RBI doubles for the Tigers, who finally saw their long losing streak end.

"It felt like everyone was exhaling a little bit," Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said.

Ramirez doubled in the third for the lone White Sox run. But after Adam LaRoche singled in the fourth inning, Price didn't allow a hit the rest of the way.

"For us offensively, we just ran into a really good David Price tonight," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said. "He's always tough and you've got to be able to get him early or he just seems to get stronger."

SERIES STRUGGLES

With his team four games under .500, Ventura says for now, the focus needs to be on winning series. The White Sox will need a victory against the Tigers on Sunday to win a series for just the second time in their last six. "We come in focused and confident every night that we're going to go out there and win," Danks said.

Tigers: RHP Justin Verlander (triceps strain) struck out nine and allowed a run and four hits in 5 2-3 innings in likely his final rehab assignment at Triple-A Toledo on Saturday. He is expected to rejoin the team next week. The date of his next start has yet to be announced. ... RHP Bruce Rondon (biceps tendinitis) allowed four runs in an inning in possibly his final rehab appearance with Toledo on Saturday. ... DH Victor Martinez (left knee inflammation) has been working out at extended spring training and is expected to rejoin the team Tuesday to be evaluated.

White Sox: OF Melky Cabrera had the day off. He is hitting .197 in his last 27 games.
