UIC Issues Crime Alert in Little Italy

UIC Police issued a crime alert for students living off-campus after a home invasion over the weekend in Little Italy

A home invasion over the weekend prompted UIC campus police on Monday to issue a crime alert for students living off-campus in Little Italy.

Campus police say an intruder broke into a student's apartment early Saturday morning in the 1100 block of West Taylor Street.

The victim was woken up by the intruder, described by police as a 30- to 40-year-old African American male about 5' 6" tall and weighing 150 pounds, shining a flashlight in his face.

Police say the intruder searched the student's pockets and took his ID and ATM card. He then demanded the PIN number, which the student gave him. The offender took an electronic game system before fleeing the apartment.

The victim was not injured.

Chicago Police continue to investigate the robbery. They say the man apparently entered and left the apartment through the unlocked rear door.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call UIC Police at 312-996-2830.
