Two Teens Stabbed at Suburban Graduation Party

Two teens were stabbed, one of them fatally, over the weekend at a high school graduation party in west suburban Glen Ellyn.

The stabbing happened around 10:30 p.m. during a fight at a party in the 2N 300 block of Prairie Avenue in unincorporated Glen Ellyn, according to the DuPage County Sheriff’s office.

From her hospital bed Monday, Verkita Vargas recalled that she and her boyfriend, Tehavis Price, were attending the celebration for her nephew. The homeowner, who wished to remain anonymous, said another teen showed up at the party intoxicated and "stirred up some stuff with some people."

Vargas was sitting in the driver's seat of a car when she was attacked.

"The kid that did it came to my door, opened my door, and hit me in my mouth and stabbed me in my side," she said.

After Vargas was stabbed, she said Price got out of the car to help. That's when he was also attacked. The 19-year-old man later died.

Family members said Price was a kind-hearted man who hoped to become a computer engineer. Vargas' mother said Price treated her daughter "like a queen, like a princess."

"Anyone who knew him, loved him," she said. "He left that mark upon them."

Vargas is expected to recover from her injuries.
