Chicago is getting a bit of a reprieve from the subzero temperatures that gripped the area only a few days earlier.

Sunday's high temperatures will be nearly 10 degrees above normal, topping out around 40 degrees in most locations. Areas north and west of Chicago will be slightly cooler, according to NBC 5 meteorologist Cheryl Scott.

A disturbance will move in overnight that could produce a few snowflakes on Monday, but temperatures will still top out in the high 30s to kick off the work week, but will drop throughout the day.

Tuesday brings a better chance for snow showers, but temperatures should still stay about zero.

Expect cold temperatures to return on Wednesday, with a high of 21 degrees.
