Smooth Travels Expected for Thanksgiving Weekend

The city's aviation department reports Sunday that operations are normal at both O'Hare International Airport and Midway International Airport

Millions of travelers will return home Sunday after the Thanksgiving holiday, making it one of the busiest travel days of the year, according to TripAdvisor.

A survey by the travel website found 35% of travelers will fly home, another 62% will drive.

There are no notable delays for Thanksgiving holiday travelers at Chicago's main airports.

The city's aviation department reports Sunday that operations are normal at both O'Hare International Airport and Midway International Airport.

Those traveling by car in Illinois also face few problems. Road conditions are good throughout the state, though western Illinois could see some rain during the day.

Amtrak expects a record breaking number of passengers this year.

Thanksgiving is the busiest travel period for Amtrak, according to a release sent by the railroad service. To accommodate passengers, Amtrak added extra trains to Michigan and downstate Illinois.

Last year, a record 772,211 passengers rode Amtrak during the Thanksgiving holiday, according to Amtrak.
