Rockford Among “Least Educated Cities in America”

Rockford rounded out the bottom three on the list at no. 148

Rockford has been named one of the least educated cities in America.

A new study by personal finance social network WalletHub ranks the most and least educated cities in America to determine where the nation’s “smart people” settle down.

WalletHub analyzed the 150 largest metropolitan areas in the U.S., using data like the educational attainment, the percentage of workers with jobs in computer engineering and science fields and the quality and size of schools in the area.

Chicago was the first Illinois city to make this list at no. 31. The next Illinois city in the ranking was Peoria, which came in at no. 114.

Finally, Rockford rounded out the bottom three on the list at no. 148.

The only other cities below Rockford were Salinas, California and Beaumont, Texas.

The top educated cities were:

1. Ann Arbor, Michigan
2. Raleigh, North Carolina
3. Durham, North Carolina
4. Provo, Utah
5. Manchester, New Hampshire
