Quinn: Governor Should 'Do the Right Thing'

Illinois Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn

Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn on Tuesday said Gov. Rod Blagojevich needs to "do the right thing" and step aside if his ability to govern is impeded by the federal corruption charges he's facing.

Quinn didn't directly call on the governor to resign, but he said the Illinois Constitution provides a way for the governor to step aside in such situations.

Quinn added that the governor "knows what he needs to do," and he appealed to Blagojevich to do what's appropriate.

The lieutenant governor added that the Illinois Legislature also has the ability to hold a hearing on whether the governor is able to carry out his duties.

Quinn also said every person is presumed innocent under the U.S. legal system, and that he believes in that system.
