Mother, Son Arrested After Firing Gun into Air

A mother and her teenage son were arrested on gun charges Friday after the mother fired a gun into the air in the Poplar Creek subdivision, Elgin police said.

Twana Mosley, 35, was charged with two felony counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, one felony count of reckless discharge of a firearm and a misdemeanor count of not having a valid firearm owner's identification card, Elgin police said.

Mosley’s 14-year-old son was also charged with two felony counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and a misdemeanor count of not having a valid FOID card after he allegedly brought two rifles outside to his mother, police said.

Police were dispatched around 3:30 p.m. Friday to the 1000 block of Peachtree Lane after Mosley reportedly went outside her home with two handguns to confront someone involved in an earlier fight with her extended family. She then fired one round into the air, according to police.

Police quickly surrounded the home and Mosley and her son were arrested without incident. Three handguns and two rifles were confiscated during a search of the home, police said.

Mosley is expected Sunday in bond court.
