An Orland Park man is charged with allegedly beating a pit bull outside a store in south suburban Steger.

Robert Kazlauskas, 27, of the 14300 block of Pinewood Drive, faces animal cruelty charges for the Monday incident outside Scott’s U Save tire store, 3500 block of Steger Road, the Chicago Tribune reports

Steger police said store employees saw Kazlauskas hitting and grabbing the tan-colored dog by its ear and chin, the paper reports. Then, they called police to file an animal cruelty complaint.

Police described the dog as friendly and about a year old. The dog even tried to get into someone else's car, police said.

Authorities examined the pit after the incident and determined the dog was OK, said police.

Kazlauskas is due in a Will County court March 16.
