Man Charged With Fatally Stabbing Relative at Elk Grove Village Hospital

A man is charged with stabbing his relative to death inside a northwest suburban hospital on Sunday, after the woman went to visit a patient.

Javier Bahena, 43, is charged with one count of first-degree murder for the stabbing at Alexian Brothers Medical Center, according to the Cook County state’s attorney’s office.

Officers responded at 11:36 a.m. to a battery report at the hospital at 800 Biesterfield Road in Elk Grove Village, according to a statement from police in the suburb.

Francisca Quintero, 42, had been visiting a patient’s room when Bahena allegedly attacked her, authorities said. They are related, but authorities did not give further details Monday.

Quintero, of Burlington, Wisconsin, was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

Bahena was arrested at the hospital without incident, police said. No hospital patients or staff suffered injuries during the attack. After Bahena was taken into custody, Alexian Brothers resumed normal operations.

Elk Grove Police Officer Russell Sullivan told the Daily Herald that the victim and Baherna were in a domestic living arrangement, but it was not clear if they were a couple or family members.

Bahena appeared in a Rolling Meadows courthouse Monday afternoon for a hearing, where he was ordered by a Cook County judge to be held without bond, the Daily Herald reports.

He will remain in custody at the Cook County jail until his next court date is set, according to the state’s attorney’s office.
