No adult? No shopping.
That’s the new rule being implemented at a southwest suburban mall starting this weekend.
The Louis Joliet Mall said it will launch its “youth supervision policy” Friday, requiring anyone 17 or younger to be escorted by an adult, parent or legal guardian 21 or older between 5 p.m. and closing time on Fridays and Saturdays.
“This policy allows us to continue offering a pleasant, family-friendly shopping experience here at Louis Joliet Mall,” Marketing Director Sandy Maldonado-Martinez said in a statement.
The mall said its new policy follows in the footsteps of other malls in the area, like the one implemented at Fox Valley Mall following a massive brawl last year.
Mall security is expected to greet shoppers at various entrances Friday to make sure shoppers are complying with the new rule.
One adult can escort up to six youths, officials said. Teens scheduled to work at the mall will need to show a valid ID and proof of employment.

“Security may ask shoppers and guests to show proof of age with valid identification,” the mall said.
Louis Joliet Mall features more than 90 stores, restaurants, and a Cinemark theater. The new rule will not apply at the theater, however.
