Woman Survives Crash into DuPage River

A car that crashed into the DuPage River Sunday remains submerged until water levels go down and crews can pull it out.

A Joliet woman crashed her car into the DuPage River Sunday in southwest suburban Channahon and survived.

Police say the 20-year-old driver lost control on a curve at Shepley Road. She was able to get out of the car on her own and swim to the shore. A passerby helped the woman out of the river.

Police say she was taken to the hospital, but they don't believe her injuries are serious. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

Police will leave the car in the river until the water recedes from recent rains.
