Gary authorities are looking for a jail inmate who escaped from a transport van on Friday.
It happened at about 1:30 p.m. outside the Gary City Court.
Jamal Haskins, 21, had just appeared in court where a judge sentenced him to a year in the Lake County Jail after he had not followed through with attending meetings at a local behavioral healthcare center.
Authorities say Haskins kicked one officer in the leg and pushed the other one down, and fled in an unknown direction.
Haskins is described as 5-foot-6, 220 pounds with a short haircut. He was wearing all black and had silver handcuffs dangling from one wrist.
The two officers were transported to a local hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
