Vandals have struck the family home of an injured Marine visiting his southwestern Illinois relatives for the Christmas holidays.

The incident may have been a random act and not necessarily designed to target him.

Marine Lance Cpl. Chris Van Etten lost both of his legs in a June explosion in Afghanistan. He has been in rehab in California since then.

O'Fallon police Captain Mark Berry says the vandalism included spray painted racial slurs and raw eggs thrown at the site.

The incident was first reported early Monday morning. Berry says there are no eye witnesses and no other available evidence.
