Evanston police are investigating a home invasion near the Northwestern University campus that occurred early Tuesday morning.

At approximately 2 a.m., a man broke a window of the rear door to a second floor apartment located in the 600 block of Clark Street in Evanston, according to Northwestern officials.

“One of the female residents heard her roommate screaming believing there was an intruder in the apartment,” Deputy Chief Jay Parrott said.

The burglar took two laptops, two wallets, and a book bag from the students’ apartment before leaving, according to officials.

“We were able to recover some DNA and some articles of clothing that we believe might be related to the offender to the scene,” Parrott said.

Even though the home invasion occurred off campus, university officials issued a warning asking everyone to stay alert.
