Five people were injured Tuesday morning in an explosion at a gas plant about 60 miles southwest of Chicago. Two people were taken to a local hospital in serious condition.
Police said the explosion happened just before 10 a.m. during routine maintenance at the Natural Gas Pipeline Company of America near Herscher in Kankakee County, according to the Daily Journal.
A gas leak wasn't responsible for the explosion, Kankakee County Sheriff's Department spokesman Ken McCabe told the Associated Press.
The building has been secured. There is no word on the conditions of those injured.
