Five energy companies in the Chicago area want ComEd's customers, and more competition could be on the way.

Constellation NewEnergy, BlueStar Energy Solutions, Champion Energy, Direct Energy Services and Spark Energy are all trying to lure customers from ComEd.

So far, homeowners haven't been quick to switch, though.

Only 807 of ComEd's nearly 3.4 million residential customers changed power providers at last count in September, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Consumer rights experts say no matter which company they go with, homeowners shouldn't forget to read the fine print.
