Chicago Parents Charged with Leaving Kids Alone for Two Days

The couple allegedly traveled to Las Vegas last month and left their two kids alone in their Uptown home

A Chicago couple was charged this week with leaving their kids home alone last month for almost two days while they vacationed in Las Vegas.

Shanpreta Howard, 34, and Antowain Johnson, 36, of the 4800 block of North Winthrop Avenue, are accused of leaving their 12- and 9-year-old children alone in their Uptown home from about 6 p.m. Feb. 22 until about 4:15 p.m. Feb. 24.

Howard and Johnson were charged with two misdemeanor counts of child endangerment.

According to a police report, the 12-year-old boy told his teacher on Feb. 23 that his parents went to Las Vegas and left him and his sister alone.

Police reportedly contacted Johnson, then called the kids' aunt who said she would look after the boy and girl.
