Chicago Cubs Arrive Home to Crowds of Eager Fans

Wrigley Field’s marquee said it all Thursday morning: World Series champions.

Passionate fans anxiously waited through the night for the Chicago Cubs to return home to Chicago  after the team took home the title Wednesday night for the first time in 108 years.

One fan, Carmen Murillo, drove with his wife from suburban Streamwood to arrive downtown before 5 a.m. for a chance to see the long-awaited trophy for himself.

“I just knew once they won that I had to be next to the park,” Murillo said. “I’ve waited all this time… My whole family has. My dad, my mother, my grandparents – they’re all Cubs fans.”

The Cubs flew back to the city late Wednesday night, landing at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport and then traveling aboard eight buses carrying the team and their loved ones to Wrigley Field.

Players took turns passing the new hardware around on their way back from Cleveland. Many players posted photos posing with the trophy on the team plane in the hours after the win.
