Charges Filed in Fatal Wrong-Way Crash on I-290

Charges have been filed in the wrong-way crash on I-290 early Sunday morning that left one person dead and four others injured.

Matthew M. Bougher, 21, of Chicago, was charged with aggravated DUI resulting in death and three counts of aggravated DUI resulting in great bodily harm, state police said.

Bougher is accused of entering the eastbound lanes of I-290 in Forest Park and driving west when he hit a van head-on and struck another car. The incident happened early Sunday morning near the Des Plaines Avenue exit.

Juan Carlos Salazar, 29, who was driving the van that was struck, died in the incident. Salazar was driving with four bandmates from Milwaukee to Chicago after their Chicago-based band Escuela de Rancho performed a show there the night before.

The four other bandmates were transported with injures to Loyola University Medical Center.
