Politics in Illinois are no laughing matter right now.  We've got an impeached governor with Rod Blagojevich. And an open U.S. Senate seat that Roland Burris is coveting like the last one in a game of musical chairs.

So leave it to Saturday Night Live to take the opportunity to make a joke of the situation.

The MSNBC Rachel Maddow Show-inspired skit Saturday featured "Roland Burris" bragging about his qualifications and "Gov. Rod Blagojevich" appearing in his running gear made famous on the day he decided to go jogging while the Illinois House was voting to impeach him.

Since Blagojevich was arrested Dec. 9 on charges he tried to auction off President-elect Barack Obama's senate seat, late night talk show hosts and comedians have been taking shots at him and Illinois politics. And now, Roland Burris.

Burris and his healthy ego were catapulted into the media spotlight after Blagojevich appointed the former Illinois Attorney General to the senate only to be turned away at least week's swearing-in ceremony.

Maybe there's room for the senate appointee to add SNL to his gravestone, too.
