Father, Son Killed in Gary Fire: Officials

A father and son were killed during a fire at a home in Gary, Indiana early Thursday morning.

Fire officials said the fire broke out at 4:40 a.m. in the 4200 block of West 21st Avenue. After the flames were put out, firefighters discovered two people inside the home.

John Berry, 94, and Darrick Berry, 47, who police say were father and son, were pronounced dead after the blaze, according to the Gary Police Department.

The Lake County Coroner said the men died of severe burns and smoke inhalation. 

The cause of the fire remained under investigation Thursday.
