Patti: Being a Mom Keeps Me Focused

Rod, Patti Blagojevich make appearance on ABC's The View

Packing lunches and getting the kids off to school -- basically, being a mom -- has helped Illinois' former first lady get through the months since her husband was arrested and removed from office.

Patti Blagojevich joined her husband on ABC's The View today to promote his new book, "The Governor," and said their daughters, Amy and Annie, have kept her focused.

"I went on the reality show because it was a necessity for my family," Patti Blagojevich said, illustrating that point by mentioning that the family still has a mortgage and sends their daughters to private schools.

The couple made their first joint network television appearance together on the show, which included guest host Meghan McCain, daughter of former Republican presidential nominee John McCain.

McCain told Patti Blagojevich that her appearance on NBC's reality show, "I'm a Celebrity ... Get Me Out of Here" changed Americans' perceptions of her -- for the better.

"You were Lady Macbeth, or whatever," McCain said.

Co-host Sherri Shepherd agreed and apologized to the former first lady for her initial opinion, which she didn't share with the studio and television audience.

To accomplish a similar turnaround, co-host Joy Behar jokingly suggested that Rod "I've done nothing wrong" Blagojevich join the cast of ABC's Dancing with the Stars."

The Blagojevich's will appear on ABC's Good Morning America and Jimmy Kimmel Live on Thursday.
