"Paco" Rodriguez's family to save uncle through organ donation

In an uplifting end to an otherwise tragic turn of events, the family of fallen Chicago boxer Francisco "Paco" Rodriquez, who died after his bout Sunday, will save a family member's life by donating Rodriguez's kidney to his uncle.
“We just learned that Paco and our uncle are a match,” said Alex Rodriguez, Paco’s brother, in a written statement.
The 25-year-old Chicago boxer received a fatal blow to the head last Friday during a bout at Philadelphia’s Blue Horizon. The ensuing brain-bleed could not be stopped and Paco was pronounced dead on Sunday night at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia.
“My family is desperately grieving the loss of Paco, but there is some comfort knowing that he will save at least eight lives and benefit so many families,” said Alex Rodriguez said.
Paco’s family agreed on the decision to donate after discussing the options with a representative from the “Gift of Life” donor program.
"My daughter was born with just one kidney and thank God she’s beautiful and healthy," Alex Rodriguez said. "But, God forbid, she ever needs a transplant. I’m absolutely sure that Paco, in a heartbeat, would have offered her his kidney."
Seven other people will also receive Rodriguez's organs.
